Tranny Cooler Help... AGAIN

Well me and my dad tried to install my tranny cooler today an we ran into a few problems. We have the cooler mounted but are confused as what to do now. I've searched tons of tranny cooler topics on various Mustang forums and I've found mixed responses. Exactly which line FROM the RADIATOR TO the TRANSMISSION is the RETURN line TO RETURN already cooled fluid back to the TRANSMISSION. Some people say the top line is the return back to the tranny and some say the top line is from the tranny to the cooler? I have a 2001 Mustang GT by the way. Also I want to run the cooler in sync with the stock radiator cooler so this is what I've done. We originally thought that the top line was the return so we left the bottom hard line attached to the radiator and unscrewed the top line. Then we ran a hose from the top of the radiator into the cooler. Then we ran the outlet hose on the cooler into the hard line that was originally attached to the top of the radiator. The thing is the threads do not start on the hard line for about 1/4 an inch so our compression fitting wont screw into it. Here's a pic to better explain it... Sorry for the long read.

Now to attach the rubber hose to the hard line I need to be able to screw a compression fitting on but it is not deep enough to accepct the threads. How did you guys do it?

What fitting did you use to attach the hose to the tranny hard line?

Here's a crude diagram of how your setup will look.

Here's what you have stock. A hard line from your transmission running to a fitting which attaches to the top of your transmission. Then, at the bottom of the radiator, is a fitting, with a hard line which returns the cooled fluid to the tranny.

You can either buy some hose barb fittings from home depot if you know the size or you can go to napa and get the fittings.. or if they're out get them from bulkpart.com

You'll leave that stock hose from the tranny to the radiator in tact (the top one.) Then, you'll remove the bottom line, and remove the fitting from the hard line. Next you'll screw the adapter piece you get in to the radiator (the male side), and that'll let you run a hose around to your cooler.

The other adapter piece you get goes in to the remaining side of the hard line (this will be the female side) Then you run a hose out of the other side of your cooler, to connect to the other side of the hard line.

Sounds complicated but it's really not..

Ok so now your saying that the bottom line is the return to the tranny? Which one is it!

On my 2004, it was the top line.

Try this... leave the car sitting overnight. In the morning, when everything is cold, start it up for 5 seconds and feel both lines. The warmer one is the supply line. The cooler one is the return.

Yeah I think that's right, I was thinking backwards.

In any case, just run one of the lines like it shows in the diagram. You don't even have to use the radiator if you don't want, you can bypass it all together, just cut the hard lines and run the hoses off them, but I wouldn't recommend cutting your factory lines.
