What kind of automatic tranny fluid is everyone using? what is the difference between Mercon and Mercon V.

I just put in Valvoline Mercon V ATF in my 02 auto Gt.

I'm using the motorcraft right now. However, I'll probably switch to amsoil when I change the tranny fluid next time. There isnt any difference between Mercon and Mercon V. Mercon is a transmission fluid additive that reduces heat and friction in transmissions. The higher the number following the word "mercon" basically the more Mercon there is in the fluid. You are to be using at least "Mercon V" rating in your transmission.

I would like ot use Ams oil but i don't want to spend $100 on tranny fluid. I can get a case of Quaker State 4x4 heavy use Synthetic blend trans fluid for $21 on sale. Its says that it can be used in cars as well as 4x4. I also says that it works with Mercon, Mercon V, and Dexcon 3. Has anyone used this stuff before? Do you think it is ok to use?

Read the back to make sure it meets or exceeds Mercon V specs. If not, then dont use it. Be sure to change your transmission fluid every 20-30k miles too.
