tranny grinds on high rpm 1-2 shift Wtf

When i drive my car regular it doesnt grind gears at all. But if I take it up to my 6200 shift point in 1 and hit second it will grind as it goes into gear what could cause this. Also i a tremec 3500 will 4000 miles on it with a hurst shifter.




Ps I shift a 6200 because i have a 331 with victor jr heads and intake with a 100 shot.

My Guesses are:
1.Synchros are shot (How hard were you on that tranny within those 4000 miles?)
2.Low fluid or wrong fluid in tranny
3.clutch out of adjustment

that would be your syncros. 1st check the oil see if its toped up. 2nd check and see what oil is in the tranny some transmissions use automatic fluid. 3rd drain oil and replace with the thickest oil available. I dont want to steer you wrong but, i would install a thicker oil, i found a cheap one a walmart, that was 80/140 it did the trick for me but a little hard on the shift when cold great when hot.

Tremecs use Gm synchromesh trans fluid. What do you have in there? Also, that seems odd for a tremec... When I read the title I was thinking you had a high milage T-5 or something. I would make sure your using the right fluid and maybe call tremec cuz it does sound like the 1-2 synchro but it shouldnt go that quickly even with your motor.

ya sounds like a bad tremec.

I doubt its the synchros cause the tranny is pretty new. I bought a tremec from a guy and he said 2-3 was bad. It would grind, but then I changed the fluid from ATF to gear oil and it worked fine. Guy didnt know what it was so he had ATF in it. Your suppose to use GM synchromesh or you can use gear oil. Either one will correct your problem.
