A clunk isn't from a trans mount. +1 on previous posts. Being an 04, it's highhly unlikely the mount has deteriorated that soon. Now, the rubber on my trans mount is quite aged and has been oil soaked by constant trans tailshaft leaks. The problems you get from bad mounts are as follows ..well this is what I get. - Shifter handle and trans wobbles side to side when car shuts off (a couple inches). Lots more vibrations, slightly weaker acceleration. Squeaking noises and/or numerous underbody rattles from items such as exhaust system parts, O2 sensor connectors etc. And more shuddering upon take-off. Yep, my trans mount has been crap for awhile. I plan to get a urethane mount soon. 4 years of this is enough for me.
It is also normal to notice a very slight clunk noise from the driveshaft when tapping from reverse to 1st gear. But not a loud one. Try this, shut your car off, put it in gear and get underneathe. Try to twist the driveshaft back and forth between stops. There should be just a pinch of play which is from the rear end play. Any more and its a bad u-joint. Now, try to move the driveshaft side to side, and then up and down , do this near each of the u-joints. There should be no play in it whatsoever.
