I have been hearing this rattling noise when in 2nd gear in full throttle, as it starts to hit about 3-5000 rpms or as the revs get stronger. Im not sure what it is. It only happens when the car is cold but it does happen when it gets a little warmed up, but goes away after maybe 10 minutes of driving, give or take. About a week ago I was pulling into my work to wash my car, and some kind of metal sewer cover came off for some wierd reason as I rolled over it. It started scrapping my car from underneath. Could something have come off or goten loose.? how would I know where the rattle is coming from if you only hear it under full throttle in 2nd gear.

no, they would either bend them back into place, or replace them. the heat shields are not welded on. it would be easiest if you crawled under there and looked for yourself, but you could go warranty and complain about the noise, but if you hit something, and it is obvious, they will tell you what the problem is, and that you MAY have to pay for it out of pocket.stangpower1 said:

I had the same problem (swore it was loose change!) and it was taken care of by the dealer. I recommend taking it to your dealer. If they say it was caused by the sewer cover and therefore not a warranty issue, take your car elsewhere if you think their estimate is too high (dealership work usually costs a little more than an independant shops).

Ya I was leaning on taking it to the dealership. I am just wondering what did you tell them when you took it in.? I dont wnat to tell them that something rattles when I am at full throttle in second gear. I dont wnat them to flip it against me and say, well dont drive the car that way and you wont hear the problem. That has happened before on previous mustangs I have owned. Should I just say the heat shields are loose, I can hear them rattling

So, the guy who told you not to drive your Mustang at full throttle, what did you do to him? I think if anyone said that to me, I'd have to just stand there, looking him in the eye, waiting for the "...just kidding...".

Alright heres the update. I took my car in to the dealership. I actually work at south bay ford. I am good friends with the service adviser, his name is Mike. So I took it straight to him, told him the problem, and even asked him to fix my dash rattle problem. He said no problem, and it should be done by tomorrow. Hope they find and fix the problem.

how can you fix it, if it STILL does the SAME thing??? take it back to the same dealer and complain in front of all the customers. MAKE them FIX it!!! they DID NOT FIX IT!Alright I went back to my man here who I dropped the car off to yesterday, I told him the noise is still there, he asked to come tomorrow morning, that way I could take the technician with me. Should I even do this, I dont want to open it up in second gear and have him freak out since we are speeding or something. I rather just give it to them and let them hear it, that way they dont point fingers at me. I will let you guys know tomorrow what happens.

You're not going to freak them out or scare them by flooring it with a tech in the car. They're used to it. In many cases that is the *only* way to get certain annoying problems fixed.
