tranny question...

ok guys so i got a 2001 gt with a 6 speed. problem is i dont know what kind 6 speed. All i know is that the dealer kept saying it was a tremec, but he didnt put it in, it was already in by the previous owner. my questions are:
Is there a way i can find out what tranny i have? t56?
i need to replace my TOB, i got the chirping sound, thing is i couldnt find it at autozone or pepboys.com, is there another name for it? or where should i get it?
I hear its not so hard to replace the TOB, does anyone have a write up? or explain how to replace it. it will be my first time and i like to learn jus need some guidance. thanks in advance STANGNET RULESS!!!:SNSign:

A New Edge with a 6-cog swap: Has to be a T56. Which flavor is T56 may not be immediately known but it will be a T56...

It's sometimes called a "release bearing" as well. I would get a replacement from the dealership. You're going to be specifying a TOB for a 03-04 Cobra methinks, as they came from the factory with that cogbox.

The transmission must be removed to access the TOB. While not technically hard, it's a bitch because the T56 is a big, heavy box and unless you have a hoist and a trans jack, you'll looking at wiggling out from under a car perched on jackstands with a transmission on your chest.

A "chirp" may not be a TOB. TOBs are usually rumblers/howlers/screechers/screamers when the clutch pedal is depressed. They don't generally "chirp". That sort of noise might simply mean that the release arm pivot needs a shot of grease.

thanks for the info, the reason i said it was a TOB is becausing i was reading a couple of threads especially this one http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-for...eaking-below-go-away-when-clutch-pressed.html the guy posted a video of the chirping sound and it sounds exactly like mine and everyone was saying that it was the TOB. so if its not that then you say to add some grease to the release arm pivot? whats that? and where is it?
