I'm thinking to do a A4LD- T-5 swap.. so I wanted to know if a 85 mustang manual tranny will fit on my 87 stang?

And I wanted to know from the people who do the swap, if it is really hard to do?

thanks

Mid/Late 83 5.0s got the T5. Until then the SROD 4spd was in the V8 models. I know as I exploded one on starting line back in 83 :(.
Im not 100% sure of the ID of the 2.3 trannys but it was definately a 4spd.

The oldest 2.3L with a T-5 was 1985.
1984 SVO? It had a T5.

Def check out Stingers site, you should be fine if you can read and know how to use your head and your tools. I dont hear a lot of problems for the T5 to auto swap. I dont know about the 85 tranny into your 87...

We was or I was anyways talking N/A 2.3Ls but the site where I got that imfo doesn't say anything about the 1984 SVO having a T-5.

I checked out SVOCA's facts site and its says the 84' SVO had a T-5 and the rest a world class T-5. I'm sure its right since these guys have put a lot of work in restoring these cars and collecting data through the years.

http://www.svoca.com/mainframe.html

Here is that other imfo link that didn't say anything on a 84' SVO having a T-5.

dont put a SVO, or 5.0 T5 into your 2.3... the gear ratio's are different... find one from a 2.3 NA mustang...

okay.. but the one that I could get is a tranny from a 85 mustang N/A

And what about the TC one? it is the same that the SVO I think? right?

thx!

86 and back all had 4-spds in 4 bangers.

Do you want a 4spd? The transmission will work, but be sure to get the bellhousing as well.

The TC and SVO had the same T-5. You won't want to use that one on your car because the gears are taller, which would make the car even slower, and a N/A 2,3 anyways.

Keasbey here is the facts. Any T-5 will work as long as you have the correct parts. 5.0 T-5 needs a different input shaft to work on a 2.3. As for the NON turbo T-5 ???? I have never heard of this animal myself. There is a NON WC and a WC tenas though (World Class) I have been told that the NON will work in the turbo car just fine and 351wcoupe has been beating on his daily and the trans is fine although he keeps messing up the clutch. I am putting in a Non WC T-5 into my car as soon as I get all of the parts.

Achoo!! Sorry, I'm allergic to bull$h!t. (random "I, Robot" reference :D ).

First gear in the TC/SVO T5 is 3.97, same as the n/a 2.3's. If there is any difference, it's that the TC/SVO unit has a lower first gear, which gives better response off the line. A V8 T5 does have a much steeper first, which will kill a 2.3, but the TC/SVO tranny is definitely desireable.

A Human would understand that an 11% chance is enough.

Ash, did I miss something in all that I have read about a T-5 when did the SVO and N/A have a different T-5? The Non Wc was pre 85.5 and arent all T-5 WC post 85.5? Or am I wrong?

Its the gear ratio in the gear boxes thats different  A 5.0l T-5 will work in a N/A 2.3L car ( pervided you do something about the imput shaft)but its a different gearing ratio. Thus you run a risk of it being a pain to drive. The same with a SVO gear box in a N.A 2.3L. This stuff is in that link I posted but I guess no one read any of it :nonono:

Where are you getting your imformation on the 85.5 WC anyways
