Tranny swap help / question

So im new to this form- i hope you can help me out!

I drive a 68 mustang with a new 302 5.0L engine. I wanted to know what trans i could match up with the engine to make a good fit.

I dont really feel like Fabing parts myself so is there is a kit that'd help.

Right now there is a C-4 cruiz-o-matic orig trans in it, i dont know why i didnt think to change the trans with engine but ya kno.

SO please can any one help me out or gimmie some words of wisdom.

use either a AOD or a T-5 5 speed and there are kits to make them work,but nothing is really "bolt in"

Go with the AOD. The Manual, you'll have to find pedal assmeblies and such that gets involved. The AOD needs a different cross-member and shifter linkage and a few smaller items (i.e. kickdown). These items are available through mustang parts venders. Do a search and you'll see a lot of these guys have done this conversion.

I think anyone who says puting an AOD in is easier has provably not done both conversions. It may cost a little more to put a stick in and the pedals might be hard to come by for a decent price but the AOD has its quirkes too. Seting up the TV kickdown properly isn't THAT simple. If you don't get that TV linkage setup correctly you will toast yer trans in under 100 miles.

As for what tranny's you can put behind that motor... well. Just about anything you want. 5 or 6 speed manual, AOD, AODE (electronic controlled, requires extra wiring), 4/3 speed manual, C4/C6/FMX. You can even go with other aftermarket trannys like a Lentech or G-Force. You are very NOT limited with your selection of transmissions. I think the easiest way to decide which trans to put it is to first pick manual or automatic because thats going to narrow down the choices a lot for ya =)

Not too steal the tread but, I too am starting my search for a new tranny.. I have a Auto FMX that Im looking to get rid of.. Works perfectly fine, but Im going to WANT a new tranny to hook up to my new engine.. My engine is a 351W with some minor mods.. My engine builder did tell me I'll need a 3K stall in there due to the cam. Other than that I only know that I want a C4 or C6 - Everyone says go for the C4 - Any insight would be great! Also, what kind of costs (roughly) am I looking at to either buy a remanufactured tranny from a shop or have them rebuild one for me if I can locate a c4? Im sure they are plentiful...
