Hello everyone, I am considering a 5 speed swap on my 67 coupe with c4 tranny and 351w. I know its possible because a bunch of you guys have already done it. My question is this; My only experience with cars is what i've done with my mustang. I've replaced all the suspension, radiator, and timing chain. I know thats not a lot so i was wondering if with just the shop manual and an extra pair of hands I'd be able to do this. If not I could take it to a shop but I'd really like to do it myself because finishing a project always feels good.

Any advice is welcome.

Can be done. I would recommend getting a complete kit with instructions, don't know of any shop manuals that show a T-5 in a '67 Stang. I did it the hard way and went with the z-bar setup, bought about a thousand little parts to do the conversion, definitely easier to go with the cable shifter but I wanted the original look. Look at the parts kit from moderndriveline.com and see if you can find a manual that covers the conversion.
BTW - This was the single best conversion I've done so far, really increased the grunt factor.
Hope this helps, Mike

I completed the swap and didn't think it was difficult at all. You should do as suggested and get a complete kit from someone reputable like Modern Driveline so that you have everything needed. There are plenty of well written articles detailing the process. Here are a few links that I have found useful:

One of the critical decisions you will need to make is what type of clutch mechanism you want to use. There isn't much advantage to keeing the factory Z-Bar setup and converting to cable clutch has it's advantages and disadvantages. Many of us are using the JMC hydraulic setup to avoid some of the fitment issues with long tube headers. If you are using stock manifolds or shorties, then cable should be fine. Check out the link in my sig for some highlights of my swap.
