Well, my 94 MGT is sitting in the garage, and has been for the last 2 months.

I have no 1st, 3rd, or 5th.

A little background:

The car was originally an automatic, but the first owner threw a 5 spd in it.

I have no idea what 5spd it is.

What can I do to identify it, short of taking a pic and posting it on here? Is there a number plate or stamping, or dead giveaway as to what tranny is in it? The previous owner claims it to be a Tremec of some sort.

I'm new to Mustangs. I've only had the car for about 5 months. I want to get this car back on the road as soon as possible.

What choices do I have besides a T-5 that won't require massive modification or custom drive shafts?

if theres a tag, it might give you some clue as to what kind of tranny it is, also if it has a driveshaft spacer back by the rear end that would be another clue its something other than just a t-5. as far as options, a Tremec TK500 or 600 would be a good choice. if its a t-5 in there now, you would need a bellhousing, clutch, driveshaft spacer, and a driveshaft yolk along with the new tranny. you can pick up everything to swap in a TK500/600 for right at $2k

Welcome to the boards!

Has the car ever shifted decently through all the gears?

With so little info given it is hard to guess, but are you sure that there is not an aftermarket shifter, which has the 'top' stops (for 1,3,5 gears) misadjusted?

Good luck.

well, aside from what was said about the driveshaft spacer, you can snap a pic of it, or remove the bezel and take a picture of where the shifter bolts to the tranny. all of that stuff looks different between the t5 and the tremec. on a side note, replacing the tranny is going to be much more expensive than a rebuild. you may want to consider that as an option as well.

Well it is a Pro 5-0 shifter. And when I got the car, it did shift smoothly.

Now, if you put it in 1st, and let off the clutch, it just pops out.

So, these shifters have stops? Now that you mention it, it does not move as far forward into gears as it does backwards.

I'll have to check that out.

If the shifter has 4 bolts holding it down then its a T5 if it has 6 then its a TKO.

Wow, do I feel stupid.

It was the stop on the shifter.

I've been so busy with work, moving, and travelling for work that the car hasn't even been driven in about 2 months.

15 min of work and the car is just like it was before.

Thanks guys!
