Yes i was just pulling out my trany and had my other tranny in the shed. so my question is would a tranny from a 91 fit a 87 both 5 spd. the one i pulled out read r-4 out of the 87 and the one out of the 91 reads basic 3 what does that mean? get at me soon plz thanx

If they were both behind 2.3's then yes they'll interchange.

I'm not wure what you're talking about "r-4" and "basic 3" The important info is on the metal tag attached to a bolt on the side of the trans. It should have a number like "1352-xxx"

if i were to put the head and turbo off of the 2.3 onto a 2.3 non turbo motor would it perform any better/ or make it worse?

im taking it that it wouldnt work. why though is it because the pistons wouldnt hold or whats the issue to that not working?
