trans cooler recommendation for built AOD

alright im most likely taking my Tremec 3550 out and going with a fully built AOD with a 3500-3800 stall, the guy im getting the setup from is keeping his cooler for his C4, so can anyone recommend a good cooler for me.

b&m 24,000 or 28,000 coolers, the 28 has npt fittings and the 24 has slip on fittings

Just make sure you get a unit that has welded fittings, the B&M units do that I know off, Perma-Cool doesn't.

Under extreme pressure I have seen and heard of the epoxy fittings blowing out, hot tranny fluid all over a hot header is not a good combo.

I'd add - try to find a location in front/low where you can mount the coil such that the hot air off of it doesn't go back over the radiator core. Mounting it in front of the radiator just makes the radiator work that much harder cooling the engine. Keeping them separate will also slightly improve airflow over the tranny coil.

I am running a 3500 stall converter in mine, and tried a 24,000 B&M, and it was not enough. I added a 2nd one, and it does fine now. If you mount the cooler away from the radiator, and do much in town driving, you will need a fan on at least a small cooler to provide decent air flow in traffic. I put a large aluminum radiator on mine, with a Mark VIII fan, and the engine runs nice and cool and the trans runs 150-180. It was hitting 200 very often with only a single 24,000
cooler. High stall speed conveters really put a heat load on the system. If I was doing mine fresh now, I would use a trans cooler from a F250 dielse trans. They are around 45,000 GVW coolers. Any amout of time you drive with the trans fluid over 180, you are cutting the life of the trans.
