Thanks smart a$$. i am at work and my car is at home and io just got it together and i was going to go buy atf after work on my way home. i figured it was not a complicated question. but hey thanks for the input i would never guess it was in the manual NOT

It takes 12.8 quarts if you drain the tranny and the TC.

Mercon ATF, 12.8qts or 12.0L (according so my 1997GT manual)

If you only drain the pan you will need about 6-7 quarts. Also, if this has never been done before you will find a plug in the pan. This is just a dust cap from the assembly line and can be discarded. Be sure and change the trans fluid filter also.
