Aftermarket shifters will be a bit more noisy because there is no insulating material on the new shifter. The 98 has the T50 D Tremec. It holds 5.6 pints of fluid but a good gauge if you change it is to fill until it runs out of the fill hole. The bottom of the fill hole is the limit. Just make sure the car is level while adding the fluid.

I might be wrong, but I thoguht it had the T45 tranny. The shifter you installed should've told you what tranny you have. ex T3650 shifter wont fit in t5/t45.
Some people say redline oil is the way to go, synthetic. I installed it, it didn't seem any better. I've tried normal valvoline ATF in my other car, that was ok. but then I changed to maxlife, with lucas oil stabilizer in my other car, that made it MUCH better. Other car was a ford probe, not a mustang though. If I didnt put 40 bucks worth of redline in my tranny I would just dump it and put in some maxlife and stabilizer.
