Since I got the car 3rd gear would slightly grind but now all of a sudden when getting into 4th gear it grinds and when I try to get out of 4th gear it's stuck and I have to fight it to get out of gear. I've replaced my tail shaft seal and was told it takes mercon 5 auto trans fluid. Is that right? I remember when I had my 95 5.p with the t5 I used gear oil and never had issues with that trans.

Adjust or find out whats wrong with your clutch...

If you are having issues only going into 3rd and 4th and it is not wanting to come out of 4th then you need to quit driving the car and tear the trans down. Could be the slider, dog teeth on 3rd & 4th, synchros, shift fork, etc.

Yep every t5 I had that was " stuck in gear" had cracked and broken oem shift forks and messed up keys, just gringing could be clutch adjustment and synchro's

Hey everyone, I have a 91 mustang. I completely rebuilt my 302 added gt40 intake upper and lower and a b303 cam. That’s it. I drove it for about a week it was fine but I noticed it would stall at stop lights or coming to a complete stop, (motor is timed to a tea) then it would shift erratically here and there. It eventually went bad I’m in the process of getting it rebuilt so my question to you all is do I have to upgrade the converter to a higher stall converter so it doesn’t stall at stop lights or complete stops, and if I do is it fine with my 2.73 gears, note I only installed b cam for sound not power I don’t care about power I just want to drive the car, so if I DONT have to upgrade anything else I won’t but do I HAVE to upgrade the converter and will it help that problem?

This discussion is about T5 transmissions not the auto.

Welcome to Stangnet.com!

The guys aren't being jerks, your post is a completely different topic than this thread that you posted it in and deserves a thread of its own to get the right answer for you.

The AOD is finicky on the TV pressure setting. If you didn't get it just right after your intake / cam change it could have adversely affected the transmission life. The problem with just installing a cam is that it also needs the supporting parts to be dialed in for a similar range. Yes, your AOD could benefit from a slightly looser convertor, nothing radical, just something the next step up from stock. It could also benefit from a gear change to 3.55 or 3.73 gears which would really wake the car up and work well with the cam that you have chosen.

Be sure to add an auxiliary transmission cooler as well with your rebuilt transmission.
