Trans noise concerns with T-45

Hey guys,

My buddy who has a t45 in his 97 cobra and I changed the clutch, trans fluid on his car yesterday, Now we have a problem. The trans had Dex/mer 3 in it and he filled it will dex/mer 5 and how has trans noise. It will make a gear noise with the clutch out and idleing. Also noise in 1-4 under load and below 1600rpms and no noise in fifth. It didnt make any noise before hand and now it does so I'm thinking its a lubricant problem. Anyone have any idea whats going on? Is the dex/mer 5 causing this problem?

I doubt it's the fluid. You could change it back to the original fluid that was in it, because it's quick and easy to do....but if that doesn't do it, then I assume it's the clutch. Not knocking your work, but if there is noise it could be a throw out bearing that is making the noise.

Did you guys have the flywheel turned?

Did you put some grease on the input shaft where the tip goes into the pilot bearing and grease on the bearing retainer where the t/o bearing rides?

Was the bearing retainer in good shape, or did it have a groove in it?

Was the pilot bearing in good shape?

the flywheel is a new spec flywheel with a spec stage 2 + clutch. New pilot and T/o bearings all the surfaces greased were need be.

This isnt a bearing noise its a very audible GEAR to GEAR noise. We'll start with the fluid thing and I guess go from there.
