So, i just had a spec stage one with a spec aluminum flywheel, new friction surface and bolt assembly, and new 50 oz weight put on the flywheel.
the people at the transmission shop are retarded and have been working on my car for a while now.
when they got the car started, there was this terrible "clanking" noise coming from the flywheel. like, it happened maybe twice a second just a loud clicking-like sound.
however, when he bent the plate back (i don't know what it's called, it's the one that sits between the flywheel and the block, and bolts to the tranny... the flex plate, perhaps?), when he bent it back, the sound would stop..... so at first, we thought hte bolts connected the new friction plate to the flywheel were a little long. after grinding them down a bit, we noticed that the knock hadn't gone away.
tomorrow i'm staying after with one of the guys, after shop time, in order to find out what's wrong with this.
also, when i press down on the clutch pedal, the noise also goes away.
my thoughts are that the pressure plate is grinding against the bell housing, and that i need to drop the trans again and i will find the grinded up bell housing... i think i'm just gonna grind it out more until everything clears and call it a day...
HOWEVER, i was wondering what you guys thought? anyone had this problem? my buddy said he had it with his king cobra clutch and that when his uncle did his clutch, he did the exact same thing (shaved away some of the bell housing) and everything worked out fine.
any suggestions? (i know it's hard to diagnose right off the bat, and i'll try to get a video up of it tomorrow some time.)
