Transmission advice needed

I have a 97 gt my t-45 is messed up so I opted to switch to a tr-3650 out of a 2001 cobra im gettin it for $200.00 and when you are in a real tight budget that is a dream what will i haft to do to make it fit my car? Im trying to save money and do it my self. This is my first V8 so it's kinda tuff I dont know where to start. what will i haft to change to make this work.

You will need a new clutch and I beleive a flywheel, since the 3650 has more teeth on the spline. Also not sure if the bolt pattern for the 3650 on the bell housing is the same as the t45.I think the clutch runs about $250,and if you get the flywheel from ford its $248,and I think you might need a tranny mount or crossmember, mount is about $100 and crossmembers are from $40+...not sure there.I just went through this tranny thing last week or so.There is a shop on ebay that sells rebuilt t45's for $745,I just got my t45 rebuilt locally and it was only $400.But i took out the tranny myself. You can also try here, never used them but some have said good things about them on the web.

Your best bet would probaby be a rebuild on your current. A good tranny repair shop shouldnt charge you for an estimate on yours.Just yank it yourself to save some bucks if you do get it rebuilt. They charged me $150 labor and $250 parts, and at worst if it would have been a total rebuild, everything inside the tranny case it was gonna be no more than $875.It would prob cost you more to put the 3650 in,$500+ parts plus your $200 for that tranny...thats at least $700.Buying a rebuilt t45=$745 plus the temp charge for the core. and prob less to have it rebuilt and pull it on your own.thats just my opinion tho.

I would think that the t45 and 3650 share a common bellhousing bolt pattern, but it is very probable that you'll need a new flywheel. In order to see what will interchange, try looking up the parts for both a '97 and an '02 and make a side-by-side list. That will tell the real story on what you need.

I would think that your also right but it is something to make sure about.I know for sure that the clutch for the 3650 has a different bolt pattern for pressure plate to flywheel.Hmm I just compared some specs betwenn the t45 and 3650,they both have 10 spline input and 31 spline output or at least thats what it says on the site.heres a forum that outlines what is needed for the swap:

But it doese matter what flywheel is in your car as to what clutch is needed, mine calls for a 11" clutch, some speed shops say that some t45's can needa 10.5" clutch of which are totaly different bolt patterns, not sure if that is correct.
