Hey stangnet , i use my car as a DD just for the summer months , right now my ashtray door is gone so not to long ago i decided to put my hand down into the console just for a quick feel and dam its really warm , should my transmission casing be warm to the touch or is somthing wrong , Like im feeling the heat right off the carpet floor right in the middle, im guessing that it should be warm but i want a second opinion, ill be taking a trip comming up this thursday and dont want to be worried about anything. Trannsmission is wct5 Cheers ! jr. Ps sould i cange out the fluid or would any fluid make it run cooler.

Is your rubber boot completely intact? I ripped mine, and that let alot of heat into the car. I think 5.0 resto has replacement ones.

The boot is ripped up but i can feel the heat right beside me when i put my hand down inbetween the ashtray. never thought of this but whats the norm for the transmission to heat up. Not sure what fluid is in there now.

Changing tranny fluid is very very easy, so just change it.
Since your boot is ripped, get some clear tubing, a funnel with a tiny spout.
Release all trans fluid from the lower plug (all it takes is a socket extension, no socket). Put the plug back in, take the upper out, and run the tube down in through the trans boot. Let gravity do the rest.
With fluids, when in doubt, just change them.
Also fix the boot, makes a world of difference.

If it's full of fluid its fine. The trans is definitely going to get hot. As long as the fluid level is full, you are ok. A fluid change is a good idea, but won't drastically reduce temps.

There are some guys that have rigged tranny coolers with d/s driven pumps to their transmission, but they also road race their cars where the trans is under extreme load all the time

Ok thanks guys , i went to check the fluid level and it was on over fill, i pulled the plug and about half of a liter came out then stopped , so it was abit to full , i had a clutch put in awhile back and they really topped off the fluid, anyways when it stopped it self from the top filler plug i put it back in so she be level now . On another note the plug was really lose , i did not even have to use a socket wrench i just used my fingers but got it back nice and snug.

what kind of exhaust on the car? when i went from coated fms shorites and a o/r pipe to bbk longtubes(recoated inside and out because the stock coating sucks) and had my o/r hpie coated .It cut down the heat from the cetner console in HALF of what it use to be..Hell on a 5hour trip center console never got over 80(windows down cruising, which allows a lot more air flow up thru the center console).

Uncoated stock pipes, catted pipes and o/r pipes allow a LOT of heat into the car.
