Hey guys looking for help with a problem i'm having, but before i ask let me give you a little history on the car. Its a 96 mustang GT and a little over 2 years ago i had the old and worn T-45 transmission rebuilt with a kit Hanlon Motorsports makes and i put redline D4 fluid in. While the transmission was down i put in a light weight flywheel, ram clutch, quadrant and cable, as well as a set of 3.73. Lately i have been having trouble shifting while driving or standing still. while the car is off i can move through the gears very smoothly, no issues at all, but while the car is running is a different story. 1st gear and reverse give me the biggest issues on occasion i can't even get it to go into gear when i does it while sometimes grind. while driving shifting is anything but smooth sometimes it will stick in gear going from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. When it does come out of gear it takes a second or two before i can put it into the next gear.

I'm really looking to diagnose this problem because it appears to be getting worse. I will change the fluid in the transmission but i doubt it will do any good. i think that when i push the clutch peddle down its not fully disengaging the clutch.

What are your thoughts?

I assume the quadrant is adjustable, possibly the cable as well? I'd start there and make sure they are properly adjusted.

As far as reverse, T-45's are a PITA sometimes with that. Mine will go in reverse half the time, and the other half I have to slip it up into 5th real quick and then into reverse. And it's not sychro'd for reverse, so if you are idling in neutral and go to slip it in reverse it will grind if you don't push the clutch in for a few seconds first, or slip it into another gear first.

I would try different fluid. I refilled my old T45 with some GM Synchromesh, and it made shifting a ton smoother. Also, if it's difficult to shift while the engine is running, it sounds like the clutch isn't fully disengaging or your synchros or block rings are going bad. If it was properly rebuilt, I would just do the fluid and readjust your cable. If the Synchromesh isn't your game then try Mobil 1.

"the other half I have to slip it up into 5th real quick and then into reverse."

LOL. I honestly thought i was the only one with that same problem. I must say though it has gotten much worse since i started having this problem. I also agree that the clutch not fully engaging might be a cause. I'll re-adjust the clutch and cable as soon as i can. Thanks for the help.

+10 My reverse is a PITA, everything you said pertains to my transmission at least.
