Transmission grinding

My 87 LX has been my daily driver for about a month now. As alot of you know it has a turbo block but the rest of the engine is N/A, but for some reason whenever I shift into second gear it always grinds no matter what. Anyone know what the heck the problem is?

Or it could be a bad shift fork between 1st and 2nd gear. A lot of the 5.0 guys have that problem I've come to discover with the standard T5.

Yep probably bad synchros. The tranny in my '90 grinds in reverse all the time now...course now that I think about it, it always did that

I was pretty sure that our T5's didn't have reverse synchros. I pretty much have to double clutch to get into reverse everytime. God help me if they're SUPPOSED to have them

My 89 LX does it when I go into fifth, I have to let the RPM's drop a little so it won't grind. Been doing it for the last 8-9 years. Not bad for 130k miles

as all you guys replied to the original post the thing is that you have a bad synchro and for the reverse grinding thats normal for mustang they dont have a reverse synchro so you can solve that problem by putting it in fifth first then going down to reverse it will stop the grinding because putting it in fifth first actas a synchro

It could also have chipped teeth in that gear
