Hey guys i think this is my first post, never really had any problems until now
I got a 1987 mustang gt with the usual T5 transmission and this past thursday night i blew the transmission going into 3rd, it just popped and definitely completely broke 3rd gear. It grinds and you can hear the broken parts just jamming the transmission. I cant even move it too far before it jams, had to be towed. And i think i cracked the case because its leaking fluid so thats bad also.

My question is can i use a main t5 case from a 84 5.0 mustang. There is one on ebay and i just want to build a quick transmission to get the car back on the road for now. I dont know how much money i will have later in a few months so i dont want to do a upgrade just yet. I want to just rebuilt a T5 with a rebuilt kit and replace whatever gears i need to.

well pull the tranny and see if it is indeed the case. If it is i think other then the world class all the cases are the same. At least they look the same. Mind you call a tranny shop that rebuilds these units to be sure.

hey dude..i broke mine a while back and bought a T5 from a 4 cylinder for like 100$. it works great and the only thing you need is a different pilot bearing! well worth the money for a daily drive. and it has more pep, first gear is 2.95 i think!

See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/onlineorder/product.asp to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550/TKO
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

See http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ or http://www.ddperformance.com for parts

A T5 rebuild kit with syncros, bearings and other small parts costs about $160. It does not include any gears or shafts.

http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ also has a video on how to rebuild your T5 or Tremec. It costs about $20, and is worth every penny of it.

I did a Tremec 3550 rebuild, and it wasn't that difficult. The video was an immense help, and I would recommend viewing it. At $20, it will give you an opportunity to look and decide for yourself if you think that it is something you want to try to do.
