I was doing some 'spirited' driving, went for 2nd quickly, and found nothing but grinding gears. Now, there is a poor shifter feel between 1st and 2nd, it tries to pop out of 1st or 2nd unless I hold it there very tightly and left off the clutch, while all other gears are working fine and normal (including 3rd, 4th, 5th and rev). Is the cause likely a broken shift fork?

Can a shift fork be replaced without pulling the transmission? I know it could be replaced in an 84GT without pulling the transmission, but I have no idea about the T45 in the newer cars.

Sounds like it. The shift forks in the T-45 are kind of weak. If it isn't broken it probably is bent. The tranny has to be removed to replace it.

Alright, thanks for the info. I was really hoping the tranny wouldn't have to come out to replace it. I may just pay someone else to do the dirty work on this one....

It may not be the shift fork.

You may have mashed up the dog teeth on the 2nd drive gear and 1-2 synchro pretty well. It could be fork, but you could also be looking at replacing the gears themselves. All depends on how they look when you open it up
