I just installed a new clutch in my 88 gt mustang. After i got everything back put together and adjusted the clutch to the proper spot, i'm having a difficult time engaging the tranny in 2nd, 4th, and reverse. Is there any alingment that i needed to do to the transmission to prevent this or what can i do? Also there is a humming noise, possibly coming from the throwout bearing but it only makes the noise when the car is in neutral, any ideas what this is and how to fix it? I installed a brand new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, retaining bearing, and clutch cable w/ firewall adjuster. Thanks!

Give us a little history on what made you change the clutch in the first place.
We also need to know if you were having any problems with the tranny prior to this install.

Do you have a shifter with adjustable stops?

possibly improper adjustment of the clutch cable to clutch arm . What kind of cable do you have? adjustable or non-adjustable? How much pedal travel do you have? any play in pedal?

Sounds like the stop has back up not allowing you into the lower gears. Had that happen on a hurst I had.

That makes sense. When you pulled the tranny for the clutch install you had to remove the shifter, eh? I'll bet you accidentally re-installed the shifter wrong, its easy to do with some models.
