my transmission is currently leaking from the front seal. i dont know why we didnt replace the seal while we had the engine out but to my question.

i currently have the stock 3 speed auto c4. is there an automatic overdrive (or at least a 4 speed tranny that would bolt right up?

the seal only costs about $3, just replace it. It will take you a few hours to do it, but its not hard. IIRC, you're high school kid on a budget. Chances are, a properly executed AOD, T5, or other transmission swap will have your checkbook in the red zone. There's nothing wrong with a C4, they are great so long as you can do without the overdrive.

302coupe has it right. unless you really want an AOD, you are better off replacing the seal. an AOD along with a new flexplate, driveshaft, modified crossmember, etc. is going to run you around $800 or so. that will buy alot of gas, so unless you need to od to cover for some deep rear gears, stay with the C4.

not to steal the show guys... but i have a 351W that i forced into my 65 stang im using a stock 65-66 c4 and i wanted to know would it be a good idea to continue using the stock c4 or move on to something bigger?

the C4 fits better than the AOD in the 65-66 cars. if you swap to an AOD you will likely have to massage the trans tunnel with a BFH. unless you are using 3.50 or lower gears, you dont need an overdrive unless you spend alot of time on the highway. in fact for a daily driver, and the 351w, you can use a 2.80 or 3.00 gear and never notice any real difference in performance at the seat of the pants.
