Thinking about changing over to an Automatic transmission, What would be a good 3 or 4 speed for street? Do I have to change the drive shaft?

Well, what is your goal? How street able do you want? Is this a track car? Or a street car? Highway?

A modern suggestion is a 4w70r swap which has been done by a few guys here.

My goal I think is to have something that goes from 0 to fast .. LOL ... I love stick but alot of the time when I am driving and trying to keep a steady speed and it will do what I call the (hucky buck), I have to step on the gas or shift to another gear to settle it down. This happens only at lower speeds 35 and under, driving around town .. I am not dragging it anymore ...

the 4w70r is far from cheap and not for the faint of heart. With what you are wanting an AOD if it can handle your engine(not sure on hp level) with a shift kit and 2500 converter sounds ideal. FWIW the 4w70r with a manual valve body is the chit.

hey guys I want to do a tranny swap on my 4.6 automatic, do you guys recommend it ? around how much would it be ?

what about to a c4? i have an 87 that had a t5 but the tranny is gone. the car is gana be street legal but also dragged. will i have any problems with the comp? also what about the speedo hook up, driveshaft, and crossmember
