Transmission woes

T5's are designed to use ATF not synchromesh. Synchromesh is used for tremecs. I would recomend filling it up with synthetic ATF and seeing if that helps at all. My guess though is that you synchros are going out.

A T-5 needs ATF not Gear Oil or syncromesh! Start with putting the right fluid in there first. Better yet - you better flush out all the syncro crap before you put in the ATF. Then your trans will shift like it's supposed to.

I've read on other forums and I think here too that Syncromesh was supposed to be the best for T5's. If that's not the case, then I will promptly be putting in ATF. Is synthetic ATF better or worse, and how would I go about flushing out all the syncromesh completely?

some people use synthetic and say it is smoother and they can feel it in the shifter. I used to have synthetic and noticed it a little but I also had a leak at the rear seal of the tranny so it I didnt notice the difference for long and I didnt like losing all that expensive fluid so I replaced the seal and ust run valvoline ATF.
