I'm swaping my C4 out for an AOD and I need help understanding the differences between the two yolks. The AOD, which came from an '88 Lincoln Mark VII, has what looks like a harmonic dampner on it. Is this needed for the AOD? or is it only used when using the Lincoln driveshaft. II prefer to use the original '66 driveshaft.

I will be installing the AOD this week and will check to make sure I still have about 1" of play between the yolk and the tailshaft.

The damper isn't needed. You can remove that part of the yoke using a BFH. That said, some AOD's use a 31 splined sized yoke (outer diameter) with a 28 spline inner. Otherwise the C-4 yoke will work.

Use a T-5 Yoke, its the strongest of the bunch & you wont need to do anything to your 65-66 DS. You will need a universal joint thats specific to the swap. T-5 yoke & DS yokes have a different width.
