My trans started slipping, and its only 4 years old!
I was thinking about going manual to a T-10 or a Toploader and adding a Gear Vendors unit. Then I though about sticking with the auto and adding a gear Vendors to it, save $: no clutch pedal ect.. So, if I can find some one in the Sacramento area that can rebuild my trans I'll do that. My questions: I'm pushing about 500-550hp at the engine how should I rebuild the trans? can I just do a road racing set up and add the GV? or what?

Plus I have some damn rust that I need to fix in the floor, What should I do first? I've made it with the rust for 6 years so I guess I could make it a little longer right?

added to above

anyone know how much a rebuild should cost on a C4? I was quoted $1200, I can buy one from a reputable company for less then that. Should I stay with a C4 or go to a C6?

For $1200 you can buy a new transmission! Heres a good site for high performance C4's http://www.performanceautomatic.com/ . But I would STRONGLY advise you to repair that rust. Believe me you would be better off with it repaired then letting it get worse.

if your trying to save money a GV is not the way to go, its gonna run anywhere from $800 used to $1500+ for new unit.

The quote for $1200 bucks to rebuild a C4 is WAAAAAAY too much and age has nothing to do with the slipping.Did they say they would do anything "special"??? I rebuilt my own C4 years ago added extra clutches to the clutch pack and used it for a few years and sold it, its now in my buddies car and its been through 10 HARD years. I have 94 GMC that went 110k miles on the factory trans, then i had it rebuilt and it lasted about 15k miles, then i had it rebuilt again, its has slipped ever since and has not been the same.
