Hey guys,

Is it true that your 1/4 mile trap speed is actually an average top speed for a certain amount of feet(100 feet i think?) at the end of the track? Not the ACTUAL speed your at when you pass the finish line?

Ive read this a couple time on the forums, just looking for a definite answer to this.

Also, if this is the case... When im using one of those trap speed calculators, u know - input tire hieght, gears, and u get the trap speed at a certain RPM. Well, is that # the average top speed, or the ACTUAL top speed?

Ive been wondering this, and ill be getting some quick time pro drag tires for next year and im trying to size them to the 4.10's ill have next year.

Thanks for the help! :SNSign:

Jesse, it is in fact an average MPH for the last 66'. Look at any track at the 1/8th and 1/4 mile markers and you will see there are 2 timing sets 66' apart at these two locations both of which give you an average. As for the calculators... that is a question I never thought of before. I'd assume it was your average, but I have no proof of that.

I always just thought there were two beams at the end and it calculates the distance between them and then the time it take to get from one to the other to calculate the trap speed.

That is how it works... thus giving you your average speed.

I knew you would chime in Paul. Good info!

Now we just need to find out about the calcs. Im sure its close anyways to not make that much of a difference.
