My tremec 3550 need a rebuild or new shift fork. 3rd and 4th wont go all the way in gear just grind when i let of clutch. I can get a mustang from a buddy with a good t-5 and engine(need headgaskets) for $200. Would i need to get anything for me to go back to the t5. will my bellhousing and everything work??

shouldn't he have the bellhousing if selling both together?

either way, you'd need a stock bellhousing, different driveshaft (i believe) and possibly a different clutch as well

don't quote me on this but i think the 3550 uses all the same stuff.......i know it uses the same bell and clutch....i don't think the out put shaft is diff either on the 3550 it isn't till the tko 500 all that changes.......not positive on the d-shaft lenth though....

To give you an idea, I had a perfectly good Tremec 3550 with a pro50 shifter, the bellhousing, and a half used King Cobra clutch that went for $1200 in less than a week. Therefore, I'm certain it would have gone for more.

Yours is broken, and I'd bet you'd make more overall if you have it repaired, because there'd be more interest.

That said, you can use the stock driveshaft. Don't remember about the yoke, but I think it's the same. You can use your stock clutch, but you'll need a different bellhousing.

Good luck,

Chris

The T5 uses a different bellhousing than a Tremec 3550. The driveshaft and clutch are the same. You will need to break the tack welds on the rear crossmemember and slide it forward to match the T5 rear trans mount. It will need to be welded again once you have everything bolted in place.
