How different is the Tremec 3550 from a t5? I have the options to install a t-5 or a Tremec. The Tremec has 40k on it, the t5 has about 5k. I'm not sure, hopefully someone could inform me, are the clutches different? Gear ratios?, and what fluid would you use for the Tremec.

Bellhousing is different, 3550 takes a SROD 4 speed bellhousing.
3550 weighs 100lb, about 25 morethan a T5.
3550 uses 2 3/4 quarts of GM sychromesh at about $10 a quart.
3550 clutch is the same as a T5.
Rear crossmember needs to be modified for a 3550. The tack welds are gound off, the crossmember slides to the rear so that the mounting pad lines up with the rear trans mount& then re-tack the welds.

See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/tremec.asp for the complete story

I have heard good things about the Tremec trannys, so if I had the choice I would go with that. I have a friend that has a built mustang and has been through 8 T-5 so I would go with the TREMEC.
