Ok guys,

I have an 01 GT 5 speed with 32,000 miles. I have the 3650 trans. 2nd and 3rd feel a little notchy but not too bad compared to other cars that I have had. But then again compared to some of the discriptions that you guys have mine could be smooth as silk. It does not grind and it is my daily driver and I do not race it.

Is my trans ok if it's not grinding by now? And if its ok could I have a problem down the road. It's a mustang not a 150,000 sports car. You can't expect perfection on a production car like that.

I have made an appt with the dealer to look at it. There is a TSB out now to replace 2nd gear the blocking rings and syncro assembly but the dealer isn't aware of it. I don't want them tearing it apart if I am over reacting. You guys know, if you don't get the right mechanic the first time then you have trouble forever.

In all that I have been reading changing the fluid to 3.5 quarts is recommended. And it looks like the fluid of choice is GM syncromesh or Havoline Dextron III (non synthetic). I want to install my new Pro 5.0 and change the fluid at the same time. But worry if I change the shifter they will void the warranty or won't fix the TSB.

Is this all in my head and am I over reacting because of all the big problems some of you guys have?

Do I change the fluid and install my shifter anyway?

If the transmission is ok now, will it or could it get worse?

Thanks for all of your help.

Hey bro, I have an 01 GT with 31,000 miles on it and mines all good too. I think that it is a hit or miss thing with the 3650's. the machining tolerances vary alot on on these things, as with the 01 heads. The 01 heads are something like .02mm thinner then the 99-00 and 02-current heads making the compression ratio just a tad bit higher on the 01's, as I found out through my KB install. I have been pounding my 3650 since it was born, and now with 400+ hp and 400+ lbs/ft of tq still going strong. I say if it's not broke, then don't fix it!! :nice:
