First of all....

HELLO!

First post in here. I picked up my Mustang Last week. A lovely Tungsten '06GT Premium with charcoal interior.... nice!

The car is fab.. love it to bits, but I have a question to other S197 owners with manual trannys.

Do you get transmission whine?

I know there's a Tremec 3650 thread, but to be honest, it's about a million posts long, and mainly about 1st to 2nd shift problems.

My problem is noise. Yes, there's a light clunk when I shift from 1st to 2nd sometimes.... not a heavy clunk.. more of a lighter, "click" than a clunk... sounds like backlash to me. Anyone else get that?

Mainly however... it's whine. Now... if it's normal, and other owners can confirm they get the same, I'm happy with it, but I have no way of knowing, as I'm in the UK, and around here, there's no one else local to me with a S197.

1st, 2nd and 3rd seem to have transmission whine, both when accelerating, and on the overrun. Basically, it doesn't seem like the sound you;d expect from a '06 car with 2000 miles on it. It's not massively loud, but it is very noticeable.

This in any way normal?

Please help... I'm getting very paranoid and scared I've bought a broken Mustang :(

Thanks
David

I have it. I had a kid tell me I had a supercharger on my car. I said "no, it's just the gears." and he goes "no way man, you have a supercharger, i know it." So I just said "yeah, you know what's under the hood of my car." and just walked away.

I don't know about anybody else, but I definitely hear it in 2nd gear, a lot.

yep, i also noticed a "clunk" when shifting. a mechanic told me this was normal for gears to whine in these cars when new. now my 05 has about 14k and im already noticing smoother shifting and whine is considerably less. so i wouldnt worry.... unless they shipped it from new orleans:rlaugh:
no but seriously pook, im sure your car is fine. and congrats on a fine automobile. btw, once i slapped a set of bassani axle backs and x-pipe on there, the only whine i heard was from my neighbors

I hear you! LOL I was thinking Loudmouths, but my neighbours already give me filthy looks after I've reversed it back into the garage. We're not used to proper sounding cars over here and they get upset unless you got a 1.4 litre 4 cylinder engine that sounds like a sewing machine. There's a bit of a "green" revival going on over here, and they're now all convinced that my car is solely responsible for global warming, polar ice depletion and the extinction of several species of south american tree frog..... (sigh). I get tired of explaining that it's a weekend, dry weather plaything, and I use less fuel than they do driving there kids to school every day in their dumb assed MPV.

Anyhoooo.... back on topic. :D

I'd like to hear more people's feedback though.

Hearing gear whine.... any more takers? Let's hear you.

David.

Hey Pook welcome to
:SNSign: I couldn't tell you about the 3650 but I know of at least two others in the U.K. that I see in the 2005+ forums and one that definitely has an S197. You might trying to PM LV51FER or steedastang06 they've both been on here a while and maybe they could all come by sometime and really send your neighbor into a tizzy. Enjoy the car and again welcome.
