hey guys i got a tremec t5z? something like that but wen i installed it and took it for a test run i found that my second pops out wen i try to shift? as soon as i let go of the clutch it pops out i try to hold it in but i let go of the clutch and it grinds really bad.. but heres the thing wen i down shift from 3rd to 2nd is goes in find (most of the times) and if im at a dead stop and take off in 2nd gear it wil work fine... what could this be? syncro? spider gear??? or my 2nd gear is no good?... is it hard to fix that myself? or do i go to my local shop?

Two possibilities:
1.) Bent or damaged shifter mechanism
2.) Bad 2nd gear syncro.

Either one will require the removal and disassembly of the transmission.

I don't know how you feel about the DYI thing when it comes to gears, some people don't like the idea of working on transmissions. If the DYI transmission fix idea isn't something that you would rather leave to someone else, here are some resources:

See TTC: Product Literature to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550/TKO
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions

See Hanlon Motorsports - T5 and Tremec parts, sales and service or Welcome to D&D Performance - The 5 & 6 Speed Experts! for parts

A T5 rebuild kit with syncros, bearings and other small parts costs about $160-$200. It does not include any gears or shafts.

Hanlon Motorsports - T5 and Tremec parts, sales and service also has a video on how to rebuild your T5 or Tremec. It costs about $20, and is worth every penny of it.

I did a Tremec 3550 rebuild, and it wasn't that difficult. The video was an immense help, and I would recommend viewing it. At $20, it will give you an opportunity to look and decide for yourself if you think that it is something you want to try to do.

I agree, check the shifter first, back out the shift stops, the drive without both shift boots on, as it could be hanging on a boot.

Other than that, it's the syncro, slider or gear itself, or bad shift fork tabs
