I have an 86 notch. I have been saving since i bought the car for this transmission(want a six speed) and i was wondering if this transmission is just a simple swap or is there more components that need to be changed.

Sorry if it seems a little stupid but i am new to the mustang scene and im still trying to learn. thanks

Does not sound stupid at all!! The swap is a little more involved. The major thing is the relocation of the trans crossmember. It must be moved back a few inches. I'm not sure EXACTLY how many. You also need the correct bell housing, clutch cable, fork, speedo gear, driveshaft and yoke. Get the mechanical speedo 6spd when you buy one. Some are electronic and it will be more complicated to get the speedo to work if you can even do so. That will be a sweet swap, and those trans' are beefy and fun.

ive done it, i love it, the rear trans crossmember mount becomes the front and you have to make/buy brackets for the new rear mount.D&D sells a kit, thats the route i went and have had no problems with the tranny so far. 3k on it. you can use your stock clutch if you get the 10 spine input shaft

I'm getting a Merkur in about a week and i would LOVE to put a 6 speed in it. That'd be so awesome.

ive heard that the tremec transmissions shift like a dump truck...is this true??

My 3550 is really clunky....compared to a T5 i'd say yeah they shift pretty crappy, but they're pretty tough too. It's a trade off i guess unless you wanna shell out the coin for a Geforce T5.
