will I need to do the job? I plan on stopping at the autoparts store on the way home. Any help with putting this thing in will be greatly appreciated! Any tips or tricks I need to know? Would now be the time to fill the tranny up with fluid, and what kind of fluid do I need? Thanks for any help guys and gals.

some loc-tite, and some silicone gasket maker, preferably black so it looks like the stock stuff.

Make sure you have feeler gauges as well to set the stops.

there is an article on installing a pro 5.0 ... not the same shifter but should be pretty darn close.

Most important tool you could ever imagine for installing a new shifter... a 2x4 about 2 feet long! I'm not joking either... The factory shifter can be incredibly tough to break loose, but with the 2x4 you can break it loose in 2 seconds with 1/10000th the effort.

Just stick it down alongside the shifter, between it and the cut-out in the transmission tunnel, then pull towards the shifter.

I tried like 3-4 different things to break mine loose and nothing worked. Tried the 2x4 and it was so easy a 2 yr old could have pushed on it and broke it loose...

Rest of the install is total cake.

To break mine loose, I just reinstalled the handle and then tugged to the side.

Same here. I was worried after hearing all of the "jack up the car and hit it with a hammer" stories. After I put the shifter handle back on, 1 quick tug to the right and it came off...
