Im going to start tearing the engine apart to put some Trick Flo aluminum heads on it. I have a couple of questions, can I use my stock push rods or do I need to get custom length push rods? I bought the heads used and Id like to have them checked at the machine shop, if they take ten thousandths off the heads will I have valve to piston clearance problems? Can I use my stock valve cover with roller rockers? I'm looking to put in a TFS stage 1 cam, someone asked me why not a stage 2, and I didnt have an answer for them can you guys tell me if I can/or should use a stage 2 or should I stick with the stage 1? Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance, any info is much appreciated

trick flow heads

The twisted wedge heads will use stock valve covers however in my car I did need used FRP aluminum rockers for the F cam so needed to remove splash gaurd on oil filler.

I removed the larger valve covers when after removing phonlic 1" spacer.

My son did the pushrods and spent some time with them to insure correct length so cannot help much there. I know we had zero piston clearance problems.

I just did this on my 351w back in April.
You will need longer pushrods. About .5 inch longer than stock if I remember right.

These are the instructions I used when I put mine on. http://static.trickflow.com/global/images/instructions/dp-4a instruction manual.pdf

On page 2 it says for a 302 with roller lifters it should be around 6.75 inch long pushrods.

You need to get an adjustable pushrod length checker and set it up for yourself, but it should be close to that. When I set mine up it ended up being exactly what they said it would be, but they say that the length you end up with should be within .050 of 6.75. But you need to set it up on your own engine first to make sure.

Most people use the TFS stage 1. With the stage 2, you can run into PTV clearance issues.

I called trick flow not to long ago and they told me Stage 1 was more of a blower cam, and the stage 2 was better for all motor!!

get the stage 1 cam or a custom.

i run a stage 1 cam and i'm pretty happy with it. however, there is always another 10+ rwhp gain from a custom cam. my tuner said i would gain 20-30 rwhp in my setup with a custom. i am really considering it, lol.
