Hey guys

My plans for my 5.0 are the Tricklow Track heat kit (full H/C/I kit) and a Vortech SC.
Except for aftermarket duals that's it.

I'll have 3.73 gears also.

Will that be too much power for the stock bottom end/rear end/tranny?(tranny is 5 speed T5)
I was wanting to have the Vortech at 8 PSI.
The car has 138k miles on it.
I'd really apprecaite it!

Thanks
Patrick

you'll probably be pushing around 400+ hp out of that which is close to the stock blocks max. Its basically a crap shoot you'll hear stories from people that will tell you there block can take 500hp and other tell you it broke at 400 either way I would consider the condition of the engine. almost 140k on it maybe you should be considering a rebuild 306 and just hook it up with the heads/cam/intake once thats complete. I always like to build a strong foundation and go up from there. If it were me id go with a rebuilt 306 forged pistons (or other stroker i went 347) with a main support.

Its not uncommon for the stock short block to hold up to 500hp at the fly wheel. what the motors cant take is that kind of power and 6000 or higher rpms. Trans and rear will hold for a while depending on how hard you beat it.

That's in the ballpark of what I run and it's the best combo I have ever had. It will work great and run hard.....but at 138K on your bottom end it may not run long.

I beat my car like it owes me money (well actually it does!) and it has been holding up great. That combo is pretty safe for a stock bottom end. I get 12lbs of boost out of mine and it is unbelievable how durable it has been. If the rest of your car is set up right it would probably be good for low 11's or high 10's. With smog equipment, PS, and sway bars I went 11.60 on MT ET streets and my tune is much better now. I could only imagine how good it would run without cats and bigger exhaust! I think that's a fantastic way to go.

Sweet.

I bet it pulls like a champ.

Dang and I thought I had my overheating problem solved.

Just took the stang for a midnight spin (I'm in Germany) and it was always at N (2 notches below 270)
I'm thinking my rad has a leak somewhere.
I just refilled it earlier today and now it swallowed like hell again.

Plus I get this weird smell when I accelerate hard....might just be the tires.

if the engine has low mileage, sure. But I would not do that to an aged engine.

I have the same kit with the street heat intake, Vortech A-trim pullied back up to see 5psi on guage and dynoed 393rwhp and 383rwtq. I dynoed the same time my buddy did his 03 cobra with a Steeda cold air kit and Magna flow exhaust and he did 412rwhp thats a nice neighborhood to be in. My car has 117,000 miles on it and I drive it every day as well.

Wow...definitely nice company to be with.

Have you raced him for fun?
With the low-weight fox you should be able to take him right?
How long have you had that set-up?

Also did you have to notch the pistons when you installed the heat kit?
Thanks
