I bought a 99 cobra around a month or so ago and recently started having trouble shifting (especially 1-2 and 2-3) at high rpms . I haven't driven it extremely hard.. no powershifting or anything... It has a pro 5.0 short shifter and I was just wondering if there's any quick fixes that I might be able to try? It doesnt grind any gears, it just simply tightens up after driving for a while.. Anyone else have problems like this? My car is stock except for JLT cold air, MAC cat-back and the shifter... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Change Your ATF

I too have a 99 cobra that I bought new many years back. I still have it but she is hardly stock anymore. What I do, and it helps, is to change your T-45 transmission fluid. It is about 3.3 QTS of ATF, and add a good 4 oz bottle of friction modifier. You will be amazed at how much this helps your shifting!

Have you checked for slack in the clutch cable? It's self-adjusting somewhat... With the car off place the trans in 1st gear and then reach down and pull up on the clutch pedal. If there's slack in the cable this can take it up. Something else you can check are the shift stops on the Pro 5.0 shifter. Make sure they are adjusted properly and are not restricting the shifter throw.

I do not think putting friction modifier in the trans is a good idea...

additives and tranny oil do not go hand and hand - the temp ranges for a tranny are really specific - changing the attributes of the oil w/ additives isnt recomended by any car manufacturer i know of. Tho if you go to an oil change pit stop they'll try to sell you all kinds of random additives that claim to do anything uder the sun. Save the friction modifiers for rear end oils that are much thicker and dont need to meet such specific requirments.
