came damn close to getting a diesel today.

01' f250 with the 7.3 turbo. drove it and all that, but couldnt quite make the numbers work.

pretty nice trucks though, might end up going back for it if its still around.

nice... the 7.3's are good motors, its the 6.0's that you should run from post up pics as soon as you find somethin!

saleenster, you have an s-10 right?

im looking at an 03 s-10 ls, 4x4, automatic. its got low miles, decent price.

what are you getting for mileage? i read online 16 city, 22 hwy, is that on par or does it do even worse?

Yes, I have an S-10 ZR2 Extra Cab 4x4 with the 4.3 liter Vortec motor. Its rated at 190 hp and 240 ft lbs of tq. I am thinking of selling it actually, cause I want to buy a 31 ft Toy Hauler. If your intrested, PM, maybe we can work something out.

It gets 17 around town and 20.5 mpg on the freeway, and thats usually hauling my trike, all my gear, and cooler which is probably close to 700 lbs when you include me. Has really low miles...only drive it in bad weather and hauling the bike for dune trips, otherwise it sits in the garage

rangers seem to be off the list, so maybe ill look into the s-10 with the 4.3 more if anyone reports back with mileage. otherwise, guess ill hold out for diesel

My work van with a 4.3 gets about 11mpg, mostly city, some freeway. Its a larger van though, and it has no balls. It has less than 4000 miles on it.

The 4.3 Astro I had for a while... it would lift the front tires off the ground if you played with the pedal enough. It got better mileage at 13-14mpg.

I would like to get my hands on the new style Explorer Sport Trac with a V8.

I got my '02 F250 7.3 4x4 6spd for 21 large from a local lot. It works good and gets better mileage than my stang. Plus Diesel is cheaper than gas right now, and you can always run Biodiesel. Diesels also seem to get the same mileage loaded or unloaded. A Dodge will be cheaper and likely get better mileage due to the smaller displacement. Just stick with the stick. Cummins are notorious for eating automatics. If you can afford it though, my vote is for a 02 or 03 7.3, as they were the pinnacle of Ford Diesels IMHO. I had a '00 Auto Powerstroke before the '02, and the '02 is a my better rig. RUN FROM THE 6.0. Forget the gas burner.

the cummins eats up manual trannys just as fast... and for a nv5600 6spd its around 4k for a rebuilt unit not including a clutch wich can be anywhere from 700 to 1500... wich is still around a fully built auto with a converter If I could do it over again I would bought an auto since its a royal pain to keep the turbo spooled with stick, specially offroad
