Trunk props

A friend of mine with a '99 Stang has a Roush toolbox installed on the underside of the trunk lid. My question to all that have seen or personally installed one is there a part number that I can use to interchange with the current trunk props in order to hold this lid up with the extra weight? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, it may be that I just need to replace mine, but the trunk is constantly closing by itself even without additional weight. You wouldnt believe how many times my own car has hit me in the head. Its hard to drive after something like that! One of these days I'm gonna lock my keys in there!

Second thing is, god those tool kits are expensive. I mean, theyre really super cool, but man, a couple hundred for like a tire air gauge an a 10mm socket? Screw that, I'll make my own!

Wow.

It takes alot to admit that you got knocked in the head many times! I'd never admit it to my boys let alone millions of people. LOL. It also takes alot to admit that he paid as much as he did for the toolbox. I guess that's what happens when you have no bills and good money.

SO do I need to tell him to try replacing his props first or try to crossreference numbers?

Yeah sure, go ahead with the props idea, it wouldn't hurt... ...no, really... ...it wouldn't hurt =) Plus considering how much he spent for the box alone, seems kinda lame to not dish up more dough for accessories.

I ordered a rear spoiler for my 2001 Mustang Convertible and it came with new struts/trunk props to compensate for the added weight. I would go to a Ford dealer and get new struts and mention you want the heavy duty ones that are used on cars with a rear spoiler.

Hm, I thought mine may just be old, but do you think ford installs different trunk struts for trunk lids without spoilers? Cuz my car didnt come with a spoiler, but now I have a factory looking one. I mean, a spoiler does add more weight, I wonder...

Thats what I'm saying. $269.50 from roush themselves!
