trunk shaving and 03 cobra bumper pics

finally done with the body work. will explain more if wanted. be warned though if you want to try this, it is very time consuming, though not hard.

actually, the 3v 5.4 sticks up so much i'm just going to cut the hood and turn the forward-facing top-mounted air filter box into a shaker-looking thing. the scoop will go and i'll try to do a tasteful job.

i think the whole car would look SERIOUS if painted flat black, like a street/strip fox coupe.

however, i have committed to the color and will follow through with it.

the trunk does function, the remote pops it open, and if that should fail one day i could crawl through the back seat and use the inside latch to open it.

the 3rd brake light is only required in some states, but is put on all cars by all manufacturers so that they are legal everywhere.

i was going to show step-by-step how i did it just people's reference, but my digital camera broke during a party a while back and i haven't gotten it back yet from the shop.

1) sand letters with 80/100 grit
2) kitty hair a thin layer, make sure to mix it well. mix it until you think it's overkill, then mix more. trust me. when you spread it, use a spreader and do not let it get too thick per coat, and don't let gobs or highs/lows dry... keep it as thin and uniform as possible.
3) sand with 80 grit and get it as even as possible.
4) repeat 2 and 3 until flush with rest of bumper.
5) sand about 1" all around the letters down and apply regular bondo but very thinly to get any tiny crevaces (sp?) between kitty hair fibers.
6) sand again
7) use body filler icing for the last coat and coat about an inch or two around the letters to not give the filled in areas a chance to look uneven. by reaching out to the surrounding area of the bumper, you are both preventing highs/lows and strengthening the letters.
8) prep for paint and paint

it is NOT HARD just very time consuming, and you'll tend to doubt yourself if you don't know waht you're doing. i had a professional body shop guy guiding me throughout and he did some of the harder parts til i got the hang of it. remember to mix thoroughly.

here is a picture of what kitty hair looks like when dry. it looks wet (inside the brake light area) but that's just how it is. see the up and downs? it's not smooth, and i had to sand a hell of a lot down to make it relatively even and free of indentation/holes that would have lead to air bubbles.


and that fox looks sick! damn it's tempting to puss out of the sunset pearl color, but i told myself i would.
