Trying to change rear pads...can't compress piston

I'm trying to change my pads on my rear discs. But i cant seem to compress the brake piston, i use a C clamp, and it compresses a little, not much, but a little. When i release the clamp the piston pushes back out. Ive already tried opening the master cylinder a to release the pressure, but no luck. Any other suggestions, how far is the piston suppose to compress ?

yea....he's right. I just read your sig and realized youve got 4 wheel discs. I dont know why they have to go and change stuff around, but it drove me crazy when changing brakes in my taurus.

I looked at my brakes, and when i pull up on the parking brake, the piston doesn't turn, it just goes straight in and out. The 4 wheel disc kit is from ford motorsport.

Yup, you still need to screw the piston in to compress it.

They rent a tool at autozone that does this. Also, there is a disk brake caliper tool that looks like a cube you can use. You put it on the end of a rachet to screw it in.

There are two notches in the piston, the tool fits into these notches and you screw it in. It takes a while to screw it in so it may seem like it's not working. Just keep turning while applying some slight pressure to the piston. It will go in.

Make sure the notches are aligned to the 12 and 6 o'clock positon on the caliper when you are all done.

My person experience is the cube is junk, they make a nice kit for it for about 60 bucks, but you have to buy it off a truck in most areas. Otherwise, just be crafty with a pliers.

I tried the cube too, but then i saw that the piston didn't turn, but it went straight in and out. The cube seemed to slip out...i'll probably rent the kit from autozone tomorrow...thanks...

P.S...i dont know if this makes a big difference, but the notches are aligned to the 3 oclock and 9 oclock position...

last time I needed to get around that I used channel locks...but it took forever. I think ill make sumthing tomorow and chuck it so I can use it with a drill. Save some time maybe?

For $40, Harbor Freight sells the same tool that Autozone has for loan.

I got the tool, but i still can't get the piston in !!!!!! ARRRGGHHH....Is it possible that the handbrake is too tight and its still pressing on the piston ? If so, how do you adjust that ?

I bought new calipers, and they came aligned at 3 and 9 o'clock. I'm going to assume this is correct (lincoln rear brakes).

WHich rear calipers do you have?

I know SN95 are 6 and 12 o'clock

I made my own tool out of an old socket and a large washer. The SN95s are at 6 and 12.

THere the ones from the ford motorsport four wheel disc kit. I ended up just throwing on the old pads for now, its too nice of a day not to be driving the vert. I'll worry about it later....like when i cant stop. lol

I guess the lincoln's are at 3 and 9, and the SN95's are at 6 and 12

I bought a round attachment that goes on a ratchet from a small parts store near my house. It was $16 and fits perfectly on the piston. Fits much better than those crappy cube attachments. This tool is obviously made for this style piston.

Yea, i got the kit from autozone, but even then, the piston won't compress...frustrating
