Ok, so I'm essentially wiring a computer into my 2001 convertible, and replacing my head unit with it. I've got a special lcd designed for out door uses that wont wash out badly in the sun, it was meant for outdoor kiosks, the problem is this sucker is BIG. 10.4".

I plan on blocking off my center vent, mounting the display at the very top, and moving my hvac controls to the bottom of the double din opening that the mach 460 took up...

Problem is actually mounting the display to that bezel and trying to fiberglass the thing. I have no exeprience at all with doing that kinda work and this does't seem to be a very easy job compared to some other setups i've seen. Also the screen is a tight fit..... i'd have to essentially leave a small sliver of material on the sides of the bezel where the screen would go.

I was hoping someone would have some ideas for what I could do. Have a new bezel made (which would be rather expensive i'm sure), or take it to a custom shop... But i'd like to try and do it myself as i'm the DIY type....

Any suggestions?

-Thanks

fiberglassing isn't that hard. search on the internet for it, there is plenty of guides out there. i would get a older pre-98 bezel and using that. the head unit is only a single size not the double 6-cd changer. that means that you have an extra opening at the bottom. that will make your HVAC move alot easier and make it so that you have a stock divider that you can go from. the only thing with that is you loose the buttons you have down there. which if you didn't have a vert that would be easy, but since you do, i would just by a switch and put it somewhere. i think it can be done, but its gonna take time and some money to finish it.

I remember seeing your post on mp3car.com. It shouldn't be that hard, but like Prokiller said, I'd try to get a pre-2001 bezel so you have the extra slot at the bottom for the controls. I'd try something like this, only imagine it with a larger screen: http://www.caraudiomag.com/v_features/0310cae_saleenmustang/index.html
If you haven't had much experience with fiberglass, it's going to be a long project, but shouldn't be too hard, since you'll have a bezel to work with. It's going to take a lot of sanding to get it right, though.
