Excuse my ignorance but what/how is a tune done to a 1998 GT 5 speed. I had the 4.10s installed for Xmas and am wondering if a 'tune' would make it run any better?

I don't know the answer to that but recently I changed spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter and PCV. The throttle response seems better.

What I want to know is how do you like your new gears? Is first too steep for your 5 speed? I'm thinking of getting 3.73s or 4.10s next.

GDawg -
Everyone her raves about the 4.10s however I think if I had to do it over again I would have went for 3.73s. My original gear was 2.73s!

I use to have a 1985 GT 5speed with 3.55s so I have some basis of comparrision. I think if the tranny had different internal gearing then 4.10s might be ok.

If I was serious about racing stoplight to stoplight then 4.10 or 4.30s would be great.

How are those subframe connectors? I want to get some after I get a shifter, are those full length?

I don't think these are considered full length but what do I know...

I bought them because I have a vert and the body was flexing too much. This setup certainly cured that. As you can see I also have the Matrix brace and jacking rails. I'm sure there are better ones but for my daily driving, this is enough.

Here's a picture of how they sit under the car (but this is not my car in the picture)

a new tune would be worthless for you until you get some serious mods.

Do you mean Tune? or a Tune Up? If you mean tune, waite for serious mods like a blower. For a tune up? That really varies. If you have platinum plugs, they are gook for a 100k miles. There is really not much to do on cars much these days, but here is what I do.

Coolant flush - 30k to 40k miles
Fuel filter - 40k - 50k miles

and that's about it.

Regarding gears, 3.73 on a car originally equipped with 2.73 is about the same as having 4.10's on a car originally with 3.27's. Please keep that in mind when reading comments of other drivers.

On a 99+, go with 4.10's PERIOD. Unless, you plan on adding a power adder later, then you may want 3.73's.

The 32223 are black and the 32229 are red... (same wire, just different colors) I got the red ones.

I had the FRPP 9mm red wires before but they break too easily and didn't last me over two years. I'm more interested in them for dress up but MSDs are definitely nice.
