Okay. instock form with timing at 10* looking at your cap. #1 spark plug location on the cap should be little towards your left. looking from your front of your car. Are you sure you didn't put #1 at #3? check

at the moment im not at my house. i believe so its towards the left but ill double check. i want to change the fuel filter out figuring it might be clogged. also some of the vaccum lines some "out of shape" to the upper intake manifold. my friend has an auto styfoscope to check any leaks in the lines.

this seems like a common problem in 5.0s.

place spark tester inline between the coil and cap(arrow),check for spark.if none could be coil or possibly the dizzy.sounds like spark, not fuel or vaccum.good idea to check though.you can also remove the ICM and have it tested over at autozone, have them test it 4-5 time to be sure.ICM is on the passanger side, under the air filter.

hmmmm...seems a little different. not quites sure but posting the way your plugs on the distributer is a good way to figure out things.

sthe #1 mark on the cap is upside . the same when i got the car. its next to the number 1 spot going a bit to the left. the coil is stock and thats the only thing i didnt change. so it cant be vaccum or fuel, maybe spark ? do smell fuel a tiny bit but no leaks.

the fuel smell could just be the unburned fuel in the cylinders from trying to start it.

firing order is different between the high output and non high output engines.heres a pic of the 94-95 H.O firing order(sorry about the quality)
cylinder designation is also different than Chevy/GM engines.you said you were new to mustangs, mabey you drove a GM before you saw the light

so if i do it this way, it seems obvious that it will work.

by "cranks and fires"you mean the car starts and stays running, correct?if so,how does it run?smooth, rough, runs for a little then die?

how was the car running before you changed everything?since a lot of things were changed,it make's it hard to pinpoint the problem.

pics of your dizzy would be very helpful.

i'm sure alot of this stuff you might already know, just things i would double check.

it's important to know if you actually have spark,if you dont, then it wont start no matter what position the wires are in.

is you cap marked with a #1?if so,put the #1 plug wire there.from that point, put the rest of the wire's in position according to the diagram.

was the dizzy adjusted?could be way out of time.if it's way off,it wont start.

do you have the correct cap?there are to tabs where the retaining clips from the dizzy go.compare the new with the old to make sure.

this pic is how it's installed in my car.is your #1 on the cap to the left or right of the green line?

-----just a thought i had.

since we are doing this by text, you have to describe things as clearly as possible.

----ive yet to see a mustang's dizzy cap look exactly as it does in the books.

----if the car is running fine, than please let us know so i can stop thinking about the problem.

#!.does it crank, start and run fine?if no,than follow next steps.

#2.on dizzy,#1 post should be the first terminal at the top,a little to the left of the intake manifold bolt marked with the purple X.

if its's not,the dizzy could have been installed in the wrong position.
A.with cap on dizzy, with a sharpie, mark the position of the #1 post on the dizzy body(the plastic part that the cap sits on)
B.set engine to TDC.
C.remove cap and set aside.
D.remove dizzy hold down bolt, lift dizzy out.
E.with the rotor still on, rotate rotor till it lines up with the mark you made earlier on the dizzy body.
F.drop dizzy back into engine, keeping the rotor and mark lined up and as close to the left of the intake manifold bolt marked with the X.
G.reinstall and tighten down the dizzy hold down bolt.
H.place cap and wires in order stated in pic.

-------this will get you in the ballpark timing wise.timing will still need to be adjusted, borrow a timing light.dont forget to remove the SPOUT to adjust base timing, reinstall it after your done.
