My 98 seems to be ok when I drive, however bucks, when my daughter drove it (with me in the car) being it has just turned 50,000 I was thinking a tune-up might be in order.

I pulled one plug out, was an Autolight, and though it looked good I am not sure if have ever been changed, since I have only had the car alittle over a year. So I am thinking plugs, wires, pcv, fuel filter. Were Autolights or Motorcrafts original in my car?

Why are those plug wires so pricey? what do you recomend for wires and plugs?

motorcraft were original in your car. however autolite and motorcraft are the same. how are the plugs pricey? i got a set of Autolite 764's from wally world 2 for $1.85. the ford racing wires are really good. also you should change the coolant, tranny fluid and diff fluid. for coolant use green prestone and tap water, for the tranny use mobil 1 atf, for the diff use a quality synthetic 80w80 or 70w140 depending on what your diff says. the platnium autolites are maybe $2-3 a plug. i personally use the coppers because it gives me an excuse to more closely inspect my motor, plus the coppers are a more consistant spark producer.

In addition to what he said, change the fuel filter and pick up a bottle of complete fuel system cleaner and dump it in at the next tank fill up. Might also want to clean the IAC with some carb & choke cleaner.

Why are the plug wires so pricey!

How do you clean the IAC?

To clean the IAC, you just disconnect it, take it off, and spray it down with the carb and choke cleaner.

There is no gasket or anything that needs to be replaced when cleaning the IAC?

no gasket needs to be replaced. the plug wires are expensive because they arent like a generic v8 spark plug wire. you have the coil packs and then the spark plugs have a deep boot. the coil packs have a different style connector that are unique to fords.

o, also as was said earlier get some throttle body cleaner and clean your throttle body and use some Seafoam.

let your car warm up and then use a vacuum line to connect a hose from your plenum to the can of seafoam. It'll smoke for a while because you're cleaning the carbon out of the intake.

Say What, put the hose in the can on one end and the plenum on the other?

That sounds like a great idea. Not sure I fully understand what vacuum line is to be used. Can you exlain a little more in detail? Pics would be nice too.
