turbo 351 buildup questions

Hey guys, well i basically suck gold! i picked up a card to pan ready to run 351 winsdor for 200$ and a 88 notchback fox with full interior and NO RUST whatsoever for 200$!(im lucky as Shhhhh..., i know) Well i got some questions. i already no what i need about swapping the 351 in so thats no problem. the plans that oink and i have are to get the engine in and then put my garrett t72 in.O and im not dealing with the EFI GARBAGE i already went through, im going blow-through carb.my qustion is should i tear the engine down get it cleaned honed and .030 over and just put low compression forged pistons in, new bearings,stock rods, stock crank?> i know the 69-74 blocks can take up to 800hp without breaking (studded obviously) or should i put new bearings in the shortblock leave all the stock internals,and spend all the money on heads?im using all arp studs,f cam,roller lifters,1.6 rr. I also plan on using a C4 or should i go C6?. leave whatever info u guys can aprreciate it in advance!

If mine, I would personally have to know the history behind it in order to know if I should tear it down & rebuild or not. Most cases, yes, I would. What heads are on it now anyway?


As far as the C4/C6 .... a C6 is HUGE. My vote is Art Carr C4. They're not horribly priced, either.
 
i would tear it down and put low compression pistons in. you didn't say what kind was in there now, so i take that to mean you don't know.

you can do better than an f-cam. call ed
c-4 should be enough. your not pushing crazy numbers with a stock block to begin with so a c-4 will be enough.
you really trust carb with a setup like this?
 
what year is that engine? I have heard that a 351 block wont handle much hp over a 5.0.

What kind of turbo are you planning to use? a nice MP t-70 with like a .91~ a/r would be the balls on that

you can get a c-4 that can handle that type of power, and something else to think about is a Modified AOD. you will get overdrive and they can be made to handle power.
 
Well, i dunno if any of u guys go on turbomustangs.com but if u look up 351w every single person on there running a blowthrough carb setup is 11.20s and under. the webbings in a 351 are WAY beefier than the 5.0 i personally have seen a 831hp stock block 408windsor with stock crank, hbeams,lowcomppistons,and afrs with a mp70 turbo.the car is unbelieveable and this guys straight beats the hell out of it.thats why im switching to 351w.as far as the tranny thanks for the info on the c4vs.c6 i got a line on an art carr for 400$ im going solid with my cam, so im just going to get a custom grind from my work (Crane Cams). thanks for all the info guys.
