I know this is probaly a dumb qyestion to ask in a Ford forum, but ill give it a shot. The owner of the local parts house races like 5-6 fox body mustangs, i was talkin to him about the tranny i wanted to run, he suggest i run the conversion for the Turbo 400 in my car. He says he runs the Turbo 400 in all his race cars and they work great. He said since i was running a automatic trans i would have to buy the new conversion bell housing. Iv been talk to some people and i wa sjust wondering what you have to do to do the conversion. Do you have to cut off the stock 400 casing and then bolt the new aftermarket bellhousing??? Any one know of any sites that show this process, i wanna learn more about this swap. Thanks guys...

there is no reason to put in a GM transmission with a c4 there is no modifing.

Well im not really wanting to put c6 in it. I dont want the extra weight and power that they take to turn. I was just wondering how much it cost for a built c4 and a built 400. FRom what iv been seeing the c4 will cost me 1800-2400, that just seems like alot to me. IV saw some 400's are around 1200........

ok a built c4 is $1800 a built 400 is $1200 and how much do you think its gonna cost you to get that 400 in there? cause i doubt the crossmember, the shifter linkage and im not sure about this but the torgue is gonna cost to do the conversion. and 400 or c4 you still wont have OD. thats just my opinion. and i had a c4 built fo rmy car at a local shop and havent had any problems with it and it only cost me $1150 but i know prices are not the same everywhere.

A turbo 400 is as heavy as a C6, and uses a ton of power. It is a better tranny than the C6 though. I don't think you need either, just run the lighter C4, but build it to meet your needs.

I put a turbo 400 in my FJ40 Landcruiser many years ago (close to 20 years) and it has worked very well. I remember having a hard time finding one since they quit making them in the 80's. I would go with a C4 because of the plentiful parts.

I look at it like this...

Why put a Chevy tranny in a Ford when you can go through less trouble and money to put an equally good Ford tranny in it.
